Edward’s parents were William (b1861) and Agnes Mary Bennett (b1875). William was born in Middlesex but Agnes was Warwick born. She and all the children had been recorded as Bennett on the 1911 census. At that time the couple were living at 3 Crompton Row and the family consisted of an older brother, William Junior (b.1905), and four girls – Agnes (b. 1901) Elizabeth and Annie (b. 1903), Selina (b.1904).
Their marriage of 1913 Q2 was held at the Roman Catholic Church, West Street, Warwick so it may be that William converted to Catholism in order for the marriage to go ahead.
According to the 1921 census Edward was living with his parents, his older brother William and his oldest sister Agnes. They were living at 3 Crompton Row, Monk Street in Warwick. Edward was 7 at the time. William was nearly 16 years old and working as a general labourer, the same as his father. Agnes was 20 years old and worked as a domestic but out of work at this time. She married Thomas Collett in 1941 in Warwick.
Edward’s father died in 1940 aged 84. His mother, Agnes, died in 1946 and is buried in Warwick Cemetery.
Edward’s family had to wait 2 years before the Army assumed that he had been killed
Edward’s brother in law, Albert Austin Brown also died in the war and is also commemorated on Warwick War Memorial

Edward enlisted with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and saw service in India in 1940. He transferred to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in April 1943, just before his death.
