Walter was born in Warwickshire around 1919.  On a military record it is noted that he was a nephew and ward of Clara Smith of Welford–on-Avon. He may have been an orphan.

He married Irene E Ollorenshaw  in Warwick in the 3rd quarter of 1941.

At first Walter was reported as missing on 16th February 1944 but four days later he was found to have died of his wounds whilst a prisoner of war in German hands.

Irene remarried in 1945 to Wilfred Jack Basley – the last address we have for Wilfred is 56 Millbank, Warwick.
