Winnie the Pooh and the RWR

During the October half term, the Fusilier Museum in Jury Street is commemorating the Royal Warwickshire Regiment’s connections with author, A.A. Milne, to mark the 100th anniversary of the publication of ‘Winnie the Pooh’.

In 1916, Alan Alexander Milne was a serving Signals Officer in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment fighting for his life on the battlefields of the Somme. His experiences on the Somme led to him to get ‘trench fever’ and withdrawal from the frontline. This probably saved his life.

Ten years later, on October 14th 1926, ‘Winnie the Pooh’ was published and became one of the most cherished children’s books with lasting appeal.
