Local WWI Events in August
In this centenary year of The Armistice that ended the fighting in the First World War, there are plenty of local events marking the 1914-18 conflict. Here are some of those taking place in Warwick in August.
August 8th. The Heart of England Branch of the Western Front Association will be meeting in the Warwick Arms Hotel at 7.45 to hear a talk about The French Army of 1918. Non members are welcome for a donation of £3. www.westernfrontassociation.com/branches/united-kingdom/heart-of-england
August 8th. There is a Coach Trip to the Poppy Factory in Richmond organised by Warwick Poppies 2018. Departs from St. Nicholas Park car park at 11am. £20 per person. Book by emailing: contact@warwickpoppies.org.uk
August 11th. Hill Close Gardens Remembers. ‘At the Going Down of the Sun’. Folk Group Romany Pie will present a WWI anthology of songs, readings and poems. 6.30pm. Note: Tickets are now on sale for Unlocking Warwick’s Armistice Afternoon Tea in the Ballroom on Sunday 7th October, as part of the Warwick Words History Festival. Presentations about how Warwick was affected by the Great War, with songs, readings and a contemporary tea. £16. 2pm – 4pm.
