Local WWI Events in July

Here are just some of the many local events in July in the lead-up to the centenary of the WWI Armistice in November.

July 4th: The Market Hall Museum will be hosting another Poppy-Making event for “Warwick Poppies 2018”. 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Have a go at knitting, crocheting or making felt poppies for the St. Mary’s Church huge commemorative display later this year. Just drop in. 01926 412500

July 8th: It is Sea Sunday when church services remember those who died at sea. This year there will be special remembrances for the Royal Navy and Merchant seamen who died in WWI. At the 10.30am service, St. Mary’s Church there will be a tribute to the crews of HMS Warwick, the destroyer that served in WWI, including the Zeebrugge Raid 100 years ago, and was torpedoed in WW2.

July 11th: The Western Front Association Heart of England Branch will hear a talk about The Battle of Le Hamel. 7.45pm at the Warwick Arms Hotel. Non-members welcome.

July 28th: St. John’s House. World War One Day. 10am – 5pm. Family workshops and activities in the garden. Free including entry to the museums.
