John was born in October 1871 in Humphris Street, Warwick. He was baptised at All Saints Church on 23rd November 1871.

He married Rose Ellen Philpot on 26th June 1897. They had three children – Maud born 1898, Elsie born 1901 and Harry born 1904.

In 1911 the family were living at 27a Wharf Street and John was working as a Bricklayer. According to John’s Army record he joined the Royal Engineers in London in August 1915. By April 1916 he had become ill and was discharged as no longer physically fit for War Service. He was sent home and died on 23rd November 1917 and is buried in Warwick Cemetery.

Rose died in 1949 aged 77. Her daughter Elsie died in 2004 at the age of 102!
