Edward was born in July 1892 in Warwick and was baptised on 11th October at St Mary’s Church. He was the fourth son in a large family of eleven children, five girls and six boys.
In 1911 the family were living at 28 Jury Street with three servants, a parlour maid, a cook and a housemaid. Edward at the age of 18 was a Gas Engineering Student.
Edward’s father Henry Weyman was a Solicitor and at the time of Edward’s death was the Under Sherriff of Warwick.
Two of Edward’s elder brothers, Gerald and Hubert, emigrated to British Columbia, Canada. Hubert enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1916 and although wounded at the Battle of Arras in 1917 survived the war.
Edward’s younger brother, Eyare, also enlisted and served in the Dorsetshire Regiment. He later joined the RAF as a Flight Officer. He also survived the war and retired from the RAF in 1929.
Edward’s father died in 1916 aged 62. According to Probate records he left £14,012 14s 11d an enormous sum in 1916. Edward’s mother Maud née King, who was born in Barbados, remained at 28 Jury Street and died in 1938 aged 78. They were buried together in Warwick Cemetery and Edward was commemorated on their gravestone, on which the inscription reads:
To the Sacred Memory of
HENRY WEYMAN BLENKINSOP born 18th Feb 1854 died 9th March 1916
Also of the 4th Son 2nd Lt EDWARD WINNINGTON BLENKINSOP 3rd R. Warwickshire Regt. who fell at the battle of Loos Sep 25th 1915 aged 23.
And also of MAUD BLENKINSOP widow of HENRY WEYMAN BLENKINSOP born 17th Sep 1860 died 25th Oct 1938. wife and mother
