Blower, John
Age: 26
Date of birth: 1894
Parents: Samuel and Minnie Blower
Wife:
Address: 14 Lammas Cottages, Linen Street
Occupation: Stores keeper
At the time of the 1901 census, Samuel and Minnie Blower were living at 2 Foxes Yard, William Street North in Birmingham with their 3 sons, Albert (10), John (8) and Julius (4) and their daughter Minnie (4 months). Samuel is recorded as being employed as a glass beveller and Minnie as a printworker (gilder). All the children are listed as having been born in Birmingham.
By 1911, John was living with his mother’s older brother, Julius Lees and his wife and two sons at 92 Park Lane, Aston. John is recorded as being aged 16 and working as a stores keeper (electrical).
Note: there is some confusion over dates. Minnie is given as the same age as her husband on the marriage register and 4 years younger than him on the 1901 census. Similarly, John is recorded as 8 in the 1901 census but 16 in the 1911 census, although it is fairly certain it is the same person.
The Shrine Application, which appears to have been completed by John’s father, gives the address as 14 Lammas Cottages but the notice in the Warwick Advertiser gives the address as 17 Lammas Cottages. It is of course possible that the family moved between 1914 and 1917.
