Bush, William

Poppy on a wooden cross

Age: 28
Date of birth: October 1887

Parents: John and Annie Bush
Wife:
Address: 27 Albert Street

Occupation:

The 1911 census tells us that John and Annie Bush married in 1878 and had 19 children, of whom just 8 survived to 1911. Several died very soon after birth.
William was baptised on 6th November 1887, at St Paul’s in Warwick and so would have been about the eighth child. However, he does not appear in his parents’ household in any of the 1891, 1901 or 1911 censuses – nor do some of his other siblings. The only record of him we have found, other than his baptism, is in the 1901 census when he was present as a visitor, along with his younger sister Lizzie, at 54 Woodhouse Street, the home of Sophia Cox (64) and her daughter Emma Cox (31). This is also the address given in the register of his baptism but John and Annie were living at 5 Bowling Green Street in 1881 and nearby at 13 Linen Street in 1891.
No entry for William was found in the 1911 census, by which time he would have been 23 and probably living independently. In that year, John and Annie were living at 27 Albert Street with sons Arthur (23) and Alfred (11) and daughters Ada (14) and Annie (10). (The age given for Arthur is wrong since he was baptised in March 1885 and so was older than William)
When Annie died at the Union Infirmary, aged 65, on 12th February 1915, she and John were living at 27 Albert Street.
