Albert was born in October 1892 in Warwick. He was one of the oldest of ten children.

In 1911 the family, with six of the children, were living at 9 Barrack Street, Warwick. Albert’s father George was a Tailor and Albert aged 17 was recorded as being an unemployed gardener.
