Harold was born in Wolstanton in Staffordhire but a year later, in the 1881 census, the family were living at 21 Charlotte Street, Leamington Spa. By 1889, the family had moved to Warwick, where his mother Emma died in March of that year.
At the time of the 1891 census, Edwin was living at 20 The Butts, Warwick with his three sons, Sidney M. (19), Percy Edwin. (17) and Harold (12) and daughters Agnes M. (16) and Hannah M. (10). They had one live-in domestic servant. Edwin was employed as a Civil and Borough Engineer and Surveyor and the two older boys were Engineering students.
Harold married Blanche Winters on January 27th 1902 Lambeth, London. The register gives his profession as Actor.
On 31st May 1915, Harold was on the passenger list of the steamship Oriana arriving in Liverpool from Callao, Peru. The record states that he had been living in Chile. Blanche is not on the passenger list although the newspaper item below states that his wife was with him when he was working in South Africa.
An item in Local War Items in Warwick Advertiser 29th December 1917, tells that Harold’s older brother, Percy, was a Captain in the Gordon Highlanders.
