William was born in 1891 to Alfred and Matilda Soden. He was the eldest of 5 children – his siblings were Charles (b. circa 1892), Alfred (b. circa 1895), Thomas (b. circa 1898) and John (b. circa 1900).
In 1901 the family were living at 15 Union Buildings, Linen Street and Alfred was a Bricklayer’s Labourer.
By 1911, William was a boarder at the house of Charles Taplin and his family at 11 Bowling Green Street. Charles is described as a ‘Millhand (Gelatine)’ and William as a ‘Millhand Films’. Both are working for Nelson Dale & Company.
William married Evelyn Matilda Evans in September 1912 and the couple had two children – William in 1913 and Walter in 1915, who was born just two months before his father’s death.
Evelyn went on to marry Walter Barton and the couple had a son, Leonard. Evelyn died in Warwick on 22nd December 1981.
