Arthur Henry Boswell was born in 1920 in Kings Norton, Birmingham. His parents were Arthur Henry (Senior – 1897-1969) and Evelyn Boswell (nee Marshall 1900-1961).
According to the 1921 census Arthur aged 1 year 2 months (DOB 4th April 1920) was living with his parents at 1328 Pershore Road, Stirchley, Birmingham. Arthur senior’s occupation is stated as a lifter and assistant carpenter employed by Midland Carriage and Wagon Repair. Arthur junior was the eldest of seven children. His siblings were Alice Lilian (born 1921), John (born 1925), Wilfred (born 1927), Cyril (born 1932), Frederick Lawrence (born 1933) and Raymond (born 1935).
The 1939 census, with the family name misspelt as Baswell shows the family living at 34 Pitmaston Road, Hall Green, Birmingham. Arthur aged 19 was working as a Fencer’s labourer and machine hand, very likely for his father a Fencing Erector and Contractor. His brother John was working as a Greengrocer’s assistant. Six other names presumably siblings are redacted but further research showed that there were 4 more children born to the family – Albert (b.1923), Evelyn (b. 1938) and sadly two children, Joseph and Kenneth who died in infancy.
Arthur married Alice Jean Cannon (1921-1982), a Warwick girl, in the second quarter of 1942. There was one child to the marriage.
Alice later remarried William Richard Hollins in 1946 and they had one child. She died in 1982
