George was born in 1921 to parents William John and Frances Helen Duckett (nee Hawkins) and, according to the 1921 census, he was 4 months old and living with his parents at 53 Crompton Street, Warwick. They were boarding with Caroline Roberts, her daughter and granddaughter. Also living at this address as boarders was a family of three named Walker.
George’s father was working as a training coach for The National Institute for Training Disabled Soldiers, Coventry.

George had two siblings – a younger sister, Freda E (born 1924) and a younger brother, Eric P (born 1929).

In 1939, the family lived at 61 Lyttleton Road, Warwick and were still living there when George’s father, William John Duckett, died in 1953. William is described as a “motor bodymaker and panel polisher”.

George married Renee Underhill in Q4 of 1942 and they lived at 59 Lakin Road, Warwick. George had the nickname of “Sugar” and he was Captain of the Warwick Arms darts team. The couple has a daughter, born Q2 1943 in Warwick with her mother’s maiden name of Underhill.

 

Renee did not remarry and died at Central Hospital in Hatton, nr Warwick in 1987.
