Ronald was born in 1913. His Christening record shows his middle name as Valentine as he was born on Valentine’s Day)! His mother’s name was Alice Fanny Hunt and she is described as single.

According to the 1921 census Ronald, aged 8 years 3 months, was living at 9 Wedgnock Terrace, the Cape, Warwick.  He is described as the adopted nephew of William and Annie Hunt, the census states that his father is dead.

Ronald’s uncle William (1877-1945) had served briefly during WW1. He was a gardener and in 1915 was working at Guy’s Cliffe Gardens living in Woodloes Lane. Ronald’s aunt Annie died in 1938 aged 62.

Ronald married Florence Gardner in Warwick in September 1934. They had one son David born in 1936. According to the 1939 census the family were living at 28 Newburgh Crescent and Ronald was a fitter’s mate working for the London Midland and Scottish Railway.

Florence remarried to William Gemmell on the 15th February 1949. They had a daughter born in the same year. Florence died in Warwick in 2001 aged 88.

 

Ronald’s mother, Alice continued to live in Alcester and she married Charlton Gough in Alcester 1918 and, it seems, did not not return to Warwick to claim Ronald.

Alice died in 1973. She and Charlton had one daughter Rhoda (1919-1946) and two sons Sydney (1924-2000) and Roy born and died in 1932.
